The Moore Family
In 1832, all of the counties of Maryland were required to make a special census of all the free blacks. Among these free blacks living in Barren Creek, the first District of Somerset County was a young mother named Betsy Moore age and her seven children. Their names were the following: Sally Moore age 23, Noah Moore age 20, Elzey Moore age 15, Elizabeth Moore age 12, Della Moore age 10, Zosiah Moore age 7, Jeremiah Moore age 4 and William Moore age 2. Noah and Zosiah Moore migrated to Wetipquin, married and reared their families. Jeremiah Moore stayed in the Barren Creek area with his family for a brief period. Record of 1850 census in the Barren Creek District shows that Jeremiah Moore may have been married to Eliza Hopkins of Sharptown who later was remarried to James Ephraim Stewart of Wetipquin. There is no further mentioning of the rest of the siblings in this family.
Jeremiah Moore
In 1850, Betsy Moore was age 62 and the head of her household. The person who lived in the home with her were Jeremiah Moore age 21, Eliza Moore age 18, and a young child named William Thomas Moore age 5 months. Ten years later Eliza’s name was changed to Stewart and she was head of her household living in the Tyaskin District. She had another young child named Noah Moore age 5. An elderly woman named Bethia Wright age 80 lived in the household also. There seems to be no relative connection between the two women, except people sometime were boarders in different home. Eliza and her husband James Ephraim Stewart reared two of their nephews: Lemuel and Benjamin Moore. They were sons of his sister Mary Stewart Moore and Zosiah Moore who may have been deceased. They do not appear in any of the census records after 1860.
Noah Francis Moore was born September 1855 in Somerset County Maryland. Wicomico Marriage Records show that he married Margaret E. Peters March 10, 1873. She was born circa 1859 in Somerset County Maryland. Her parents were Anthony Peters and Mahala Peters. He was a schoolteacher in Wetipquin. The school was located on the property of Friendship Church. There were no children of the marriage. He was later remarried to Mary Wilson of Quantico. Her parents were Hester Wilson and John Way of Quantico. There were two sons born of this union: William Francis Moore and Noah Horne Moore.
William Francis Moore was born January 1879 in Wetipquin. He married Elizabeth Joseph march 11, 1902. The minister was R. E. Moore, a pastor of Friendship in Wetipquin. She was born March 1884 in Wetipquin. Elizabeth’s parents were Alexander Joseph and Eleanor Hull Joseph.Her father was an immigrant who came to America during the 1880’s. William was a life long member of Friendship United Methodist Church. He was a trustee, a Sunday School Teacher, Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, leader of the Prayer Band and a member of the Odd Fellows lodge in Wetipquin. William Moore passed away October 1969 Williamsburg located in Dorchester County, Maryland was buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Wetipquin. Elizabeth Joseph Moore passed away July 1971 and was buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Wetipquin. The children of this marriage were Mattie Ellen Moore, Mary Amelia Moore, Norris Moore, Booker T. Moore, Maude Moore, Beulah R. Moore and Edgar F Moore.
Mattie Ellen Moore was born December 18, 1903 in Wetipquin. Her childhood was spent in the Wetipquin area where she was educated. She was very active in the Church. She was a member of the Senior Choir, the Usher Board, and the former Women’s Society of Christian Service, now known as the United Methodist Women. She was joined in holy matrimony to William Handy Seldon July 30, 1923 in Quantico, Maryland. He was born circa 1900. His parents were George and Ina Jones Seldon of Wetipquin. The children of this marriage were Bessie Seldon and Alvin Seldon. Mattie was a homemaker and hard worker. She worked at home caring for her family, on neighboring farms, in canning & oyster factories and for private families. Her husband, William Handy Seldon, was called “Bud” by everyone who knew him. He passed away September 28, 1979 in Salisbury and was buried in Odd Fellow cemetery in Wetipquin.. Mattie was the oldest of her siblings; they fondly called her “Sissy”. She was like a second mother to all of them. Mattie Ellen Moore Seldon passed away October 3, 1991 in Cambridge, Maryland. She was buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Wetipquin.
Mary Amelia Moore was born January 6, 1906 in Wetipquin. She attended the public schools of Wicomico County. On July 24, 1922, she was joined in holy matrimony to Charles Willis Wright. He was born circa 1900 in Wetipquin. His parents were Perry Thomas Wright and Sarah Jane Robinson Wright. There were thirteen children born of this union, only nine of them reached adulthood: Charles Willis Wright Jr., Russell Wright, Sarah Elizabeth Wright, Joan Blondel Wright, Homer Renolds Wright, Lybrant Milton Wright, Gilbert Reed Wright, Wanda Lee Wright and Howard Wright. Willis and Amelia were blessed with fifty-nine years of marriage. She was also a homemaker and worked hard on farms, in her home and in her brother’s barbershop cutting hair. Amelia was a faithful member of Friendship United Methodist Church. She held numerous positions in the church. She was a lay speaker and communion steward.
She organized and directed the “Precious Jewels” children’s choir in the Church. She was loving, caring person and had a keen sense of humor and wit. Family and friends could depend on her to give straightforward advise; guidance that led souls to Christ. Her husband Charles Willis Wright passed away March,11, 1982. She spent her final days in the home of her daughter Joan. While she was there, she joined Pilgrim Baptist Church in Washington DC. She lived to see four generations in her family. Mary Amelia Moore Wright passed away December 18, 1996 in Washington DC. She was buried in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron, Maryland.
Norris Moore was born circa 1907 in Wetipquin. As a youth he attended Church and Sunday school along with his other siblings. He was educated in the public schools of Wicomico County. When he became an adult he moved and made his home in Salisbury. On December 29, 1930 he was joined in holy matrimony to Vetie Emma Cornish of Wood Lawn in Wicomico County. He owned and operated a Barbershop on Main Street in Salisbury. He would often have boarders to live in his home because there were no hotels for black during that period. She was a barber and worked in the shop along with him. The children of this marriage were Colleen Moore and Barbara Ann Moore. The Moore’s were very talented; Norris and Vetie both played in a jazz band and entertained for various functions. It was called the “Norris Moore Band”. Norris was also a fisherman. He would often come to Wetipquin and other place in the county to fish; sometimes bringing young boys with him from Salisbury. His wife Vetie passed August 1965 and was buried in Green Acres Cemetery in Salisbury, Maryland. Norris Moore passed away September 12, 1985 and was buried in Green Acres too. Colleen was born September 7, 1932. She graduated from Salisbury Colored High School in 1951. Colleen Moore had two sons: Norris H Moore and Reginald S Burrell. Her husband was Cecil Lewis. To further her education attended Morgan University, Cortege Peters Business School and entered in the field of nursing. Colleen passed away November 15, 2001 and was buried in Green Acres in Salisbury, Maryland.
Barbara Ann Moore was born circa 1934 in Salisbury, Maryland. She graduated from Salisbury Colored High School. Her first marriage was to Randolph A Howard, a United States Navy Veteran of Painter, Virginia. He was born circa 1934. His parents were Steavon and Beatrice Howard of Painter, Virginia. There were six children born to this union: Vetie B Howard, Bernadette Howard, a twin to Bernadette died in infancy, Steavon T Howard, Norvet Howard and Randolph Howard. Randolph A Howard Sr. passed December 26, 1997 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Barbara Ann Moore resides in Baltimore, Maryland.
Edgar F Moore second son of William & Elizabeth Moore was born June 14, 1910 in Wetipquin. He lived a very short life and passed away at the age of four December 6, 1914. He was buried in Odd Fellow cemetery in Wetipquin. Booker T Moore was born circa 1915 in Wetipquin. He also attended Church and Sunday school at Friendship. Booker attended the public school in Wicomico County. He ventured out to Delaware to live; he met and married a young lady named Louise Cook from Wilmington, Delaware. Louise was a niece to a local schoolteacher of Wetipquin and would visit her. Her aunt was Carrie Demby Bailey formerly of Wilmington, Delaware. Three children were born to this union: Vashtie Moore, Booker T Moore Jr. and Darlene Moore. Louise Cook Moore passed away in Wilmington, Delaware circa 1949 when her youngest child was an infant. Booker T Moore Sr. remarried. He passed away November 1986 in Wilmington, Delaware.
Vashtie Moore passed away in 1992. Booker T. Moore Jr. born circa 1943 Wilmington, Delaware. Passed away circa 2001 in Georgetown, Delaware. Darlene Moore was born circa 1949 in Wilmington, Delaware. She was reared by her grandparents William and Elizabeth Moore. After the death of her grandfather, she lived with her aunt Beulah Seldon and family. Darlene Moore Armstrong is an ordain minister and has two sons: Tracy Moore Johnson and Gene Armstrong. She is residing in Parsonsburg, Maryland. Maude Moore was born circa 1917 in Wetipquin. Just like the other siblings of the family, she attended Friendship and the Sunday School. Maude left home at early adult age venturing to Wilmington, Delaware and Philadelphia, Pennsylvanian. Her husband was John Rutter of Pennsylvania. Although they did not have children of their own they reared two of their nephews and nieces. Their names are Michael and Shelly Wright. Maude Moore Rutter passed December 7, 1991 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was buried in the State of Pennsylvania.
Beulah R. Moore was born April 21, 1921 in Wetipquin. She was baptized an early age and became a lifetime member of Friendship United Methodist Church. She was educated in the public schools of Wicomico County and graduated from Salisbury Colored High School in 1938. She married Shelton Brooks Seldon in 1938. His parents were George and Ina Jones Seldon. During the early years of their marriage Beulah and her husband operated the Wetipquin Ferry. There were six children born to this union: Shelton Brooks Seldon Jr. who was nicknamed “Spider”, Ronald Harold Seldon, Melvin Roy Seldon, Gloria Jean Seldon, David Scott Seldon who was nickname “Scottie Boy” and Gilda Renee Seldon. They also reared their granddaughter Crystal Evette Seldon and a niece Darlene Moore. The Seldon’s also owned and operated a grocery store in Wetipquin. Aspiring to become a beautician, Beulah attended beauty school in Easton, Maryland in 1958.
In 1962, she became employed by the state of Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene at the Deer’s Head Center as a certified nursing assistant. Her husband Shelton Brooks Seldon Sr. passed away June 2, 1976 and was buried in Green Acres cemetery in Salisbury, Maryland. She retired February 1982 after 20 year of faithful service. Her friendly smile gave comfort to everyone she came in contact with. She was an avid gardener and loved to adorn her yard with flowers. During her retirement years her hobbies were taking long walks early in the morning. She especially enjoyed reading, collecting bells, decorating her home and entertaining her friends. Her greatest joy was having her family gatherings on weekends. Beulah R. Moore Seldon passed February 2001 in Salisbury, Maryland and was buried in Green Acres cemetery.
Noah “Horn” Moore, the youngest son of Noah Francis Moore and Mary Wilson Moore, was born March 1885 in Wetipquin. Noah Moore was joined in holy matrimony to Lillie G. Waters September 27, 1905. William H Hayman was the pastor of Friendship. His wife, Lillie G Waters was born April 1888 in Wetipquin. Her parents were James Waters and Sarah Lankford Waters of Wetipquin. There was one daughter of this union named M. E Moore. She was born circa 1908 in Wetipquin. Lillie G. Waters passed away August 24, 1913. There is no further information concerning this family.
Zosiah (Zora) Moore
Zora Moore was born circa 1825 in the Barren Creek District of Somerset County, Maryland. His mother was Betsy Moore of Barren Creek. His wife was Mary Stewart. She was born circa 1830 in Wetipquin. Her father was Ephraim Stewart. The family was first members of Friendship Church and her father’s name appeared as one of the trustee on the first deed written for the Church in 1868. The children of this union were William Thomas Moore, Rufus Moore, Lamartine Moore, Zora Moore, Lemuel Moore and Benjamin Moore. A portion of this family’s descendants will be traced through two of his sons: William Thomas Moore and Lemuel Moore. William Thomas Moore was born May 1849 in the Barren Creek District of Somerset County Maryland. His wife, Clarsie J Moore was born September 1856. They were married circa 1873 in Sharptown, Maryland. Their children were James H Moore, Lambert Thomas Moore, Zora L Moore, Clifton W Moore and Rufus E Moore.
According to the 1900 census records, James H. Moore was born September 1875 in Sharptown, Maryland. Lambert Thomas Moore was born September 1880 in Sharptown. He was joined holy matrimony to Rachel Stanley March 14, 1902 in Sharptown, Maryland. Lemuel Moore, son of Zosiah Moore and Mary Stewart Moore, was born April 1862 in Wetipquin, Maryland. His wife, Eliza L Allen Moore was February 1867 in Wetipquin. They were married circa 1884 in Wetipquin. The children of this marriage were Mary A Moore, Zora Moore, William E Moore, Lambert H Moore, Rodney Sherman Moore, John E Moore, Georgia Moore, H. D. Moore and Lemuel Lee Moore. Mary A Moore, the oldest child of Lemuel and Eliza Moore, was April 1885 in Wetipquin, Maryland. Her husband was Charles Wilson Ennis. He was born September 1881 in Mardela Springs, Maryland. His parents were Solomon Ennis and Annie E Ennis of Mardela Springs, Maryland. The children of this union were Emma Ennis, Carrie Ennis, Howard Ennis, Raymond Ennis, Samuel Ennis and Alexander Ennis. Charles Wilson Ennis passed away March 1963 in Hebron, Maryland.
Zora H Moore, son of Lemuel and Eliza Moore, was born June 1886 in Wetipquin, Maryland. He married Mary Catherine Furr circa 1909. She was born circa 1897 in Rockawalkin, Maryland. Her parents were Thomas Furr and Henrietta Furr. The children of this marriage were Lemuel F Moore, Frank W Moore, William L Moore, Robert H Moore, Bettie Ann Moore, Nellie Virginia Moore, Cora H Moore, Catherine Moore and Harold Moore. Mary Catherine Furr Moore passed away September 1957 in Salisbury, Maryland. She was buried in Green Acres cemetery in Salisbury.
Nellie Virginia Moore was circa 1910 in Salisbury, Maryland. She was joined in holy matrimony to James William Waller February 11, 1929 in Salisbury, Maryland. The children of this union were Robert L Moore and Betty Waller. Betty A Waller was born circa 1930 in Salisbury, Maryland. Her husband was Robert M Morris. The children of this marriage were Gwendolyn Morris, Hammond Morris, Cheryl Morris, Robert J Morris and Dean Morris. Betty A Waller Morris passed away January 1970 and was buried in Green Acres in Salisbury. Nellie Virginia Moore Waller passed away November 1961 in Pikesville, Maryland and was buried in Green Acres in Salisbury, Maryland.

Frank William Moore was born circa 1904 in Salisbury. He was joined in holy matrimony to Ruby Evelyn Brown August 36, 1933 in Sharptown, Maryland. He passed away December 1968 in Marion, Maryland and was buried in Green Acres in Salisbury, Maryland. Catherine Lillian Moore married Clifton Monroe Wallace July 1934. William Elzey Moore, son of Lemuel and Eliza Moore, was born January 1892 in Wetipquin, Maryland. He joined in holy matrimony to Anna Scott July 26, 1927 in Salisbury, Maryland. His second marriage was Emma Moore. Their children were the following: William Elzey Moore Jr, Samuel Moore and Elijah Moore.
William Elzey Moore Jr was born January 11, 1936 in Baltimore, Maryland. William attended the public schools in Baltimore, Maryland. He married Rosalee Morris of Hebron, Maryland. The children of this marriage are William Elzey Moore III, Patrick Morris, Reginald W Morris, Lenora L Morris and Beverly Morris. He was called “Billy” by his friends and family. He was employed by the Campbell Soup Company for 27 years. He retired from Campbell Soup July 31, 1993. Billy was a loving and devoted husband and father. They shared many years of love and devotion. William Elzey Moore Jr. passed away December 24, 1999 and was buried in Green Acres in Salisbury, Maryland. Elijah Moore passed away August 2007 in Salisbury, Maryland.
Lambert H Moore, son of Lemuel Moore and Eliza Moore, was born December 24, 1891 in Wetipquin, Maryland. He passed away January 10, 1919 in Salisbury, Maryland and was buried in Rockawalkin, Maryland. His wife was Mary Hattie Moore. The children of this marriage were Virginia Moore, James Moore and Clifton Moore. Clifton Moore was born circa 1916 in Delmar, Maryland. His children were Lena Mae Moore and Marcus Moore. Clifton was a World War II veteran and a member of Union United Methodist Church in Delmar, Maryland. Clifton Moore passed away May 1970 in Seaford, Delaware and was buried in Green Acres in Salisbury, Maryland. Rodney Sherman Moore. Son of Lemuel and Eliza Moore, was born July 1894 in Wetipquin, Maryland. He married Delilah Ruth Morris of Hebron, Maryland September 2, 1914. Their daughter was Dorothy Moore.
John Emory Moore, son of Lemuel and Eliza Moore, was born September 1895 in Wetipquin, Maryland. His wife was Marian Bailey Moore of Wetipquin. She was born October 16, 1896. Her parents were Theodore Bailey and Minta Seldon Bailey of Wetipquin. John Moore and his wife Marian had one daughter – Adele Moore. She was born circa 1917 in Wetipquin. Adele Moore married Bernard Calvin Wright of Wetipquin. His parents were Perry Thomas Wright and Sarah Jane Robinson Wright. The children of this marriage were Katherine Wright, Alonzo Wright, Lovester Wright, Egalina Wright and Marian Marceline Wright. John and Marian Moore helped their daughter rear her children after the death of their father. The children called them “Mama & Papa”. They also took care of his mother Eliza Allen Moore in senior years & final days. Both of them, John and Marian were very active in the Church. John was a local preacher and adult class leader. Marian served in many different capacities in the Church over years as lifetime member. John Emory Moore passed away June 1955 in Wilmington, Delaware and buried in Odd Fellow cemetery in Wetipquin. Years later after his death, she was remarried to James Church of Quantico, Maryland. Marian Bailey Moore Church passed away May 30, 1989, and was buried in Springhill Gardens in Hebron, Maryland.
Georgia Moore, daughter of Lemuel Moore & Eliza Moore, was born March 1899 in Wetipquin, Maryland. She was joined in holy matrimony to Samuel Wilson Ennis December 31, 1918 in Wetipquin, Maryland. Her husband was born December 1899 in Hebron, Maryland. His parents were Solomon Ennis and Annie E Ennis of Barren Creek. The children of this marriage: William Ennis, Edgar Ennis, Charles Ennis, Esther Ennis, Stanley Ennis and Elmer Ennis. George Moore Ennis passed away when her children were young. Samuel Wilson Ennis passed away February 1881 in Hebron, Maryland and was buried in Green Acres in Salisbury, Maryland. Lemuel Lee Moore, son of Lemuel Moore and Eliza Moore, was born circa 1904 in Hebron, Maryland.
Noah Moore
Noah Moore, the eldest son of Betsy Moore, was born circa 1812 in the Barren Creek District of Somerset County, Maryland. His first marriage dated July 1840 was to Catherine Wright of Wetipquin. She was born circa 1811 in Wetipquin. Her parents were Stephen Wright and Methia Dutton Wright. The children of the marriage were Louise Moore, George H Moore, James H Moore, Mary Moore, Emily Moore, Wesley Moore and a stepdaughter Martha Jane Wright. Louise Moore, daughter of Noah & Catherine Moore, was born August 1841 in Wetipquin. She married Samuel James Chase June 21, 1870. He was born April 1837 in Somerset County, Maryland. His parents were Samuel Chase and Rachel Wright Chase. There were two children of this marriage: Charles Chase and Adaline Jones, adopted daughter born December 1871. George H Moore, son of Noah & Catherine Moore, was born circa 1844 in Wetipquin. Emily Moore, Daughter of Noah & Catherine Moore, was circa 1849 in Wetipquin.
Wesley Moore, son of Noah & Catherine Moore, was born circa 1851 in Wetipquin. Mary Moore, Daughter of Noah & Catherine Moore, was circa 1848 in Wetipquin. She married David Chase September 8, 1868. His parents were Samuel Chase and Rachel Wright Chase. They had one adopted daughter Mary Chase. Her husband David Chase passed away before 1900. Mary Moore Chase was remarried to Washington Hopkins of Sharptown, Maryland November 19, 1885 at Waller’s Chapel. Mary Moore Chase Hopkins and her family lived in Sharptown, Maryland.
James H Moore, son of Noah & Catherine Moore, was born June 9, 1847 in Wetipquin. He married Sarah E Raleigh of Delaware February 20, 1869 in Wetipquin. She was born January 24, 1847 in Delaware. Her parents were Adam Raleigh and Harriett Phillips Raleigh. The children of this marriage were Irene Moore, Mary M Moore, Noah H Moore, George A Moore, Julia E Moore, Hettie L Moore and Sarah Annie Mae Moore. Irene Moore, eldest daughter of James & Sarah Moore, was born December 1869. She married John Lee Hull December 26, 1889 in Wetipquin. He was born March 1867 in Quantico, Maryland. His parents were Sidney Hull and Mary J Waller Hull of Wetipquin. The children of this union were Roger Sidney Hull, Jesse Lee Hull, Mary Ellen Viola Hull, John Nathaniel Hull, Annie Hull, Oliver Hull, Esther Julia Matilda “Jet” Hull, Rachel Elizabeth Hull, Matthew Noah Hull, Royal Hull and Garret Hull. John Lee Hull passed away circa 1947 in Wetipquin. Irene Moore Hull passed away April 1952 and was buried in Hull’s Family cemetery in Wetipquin.
Mary M Moore, daughter of James & Sarah Moore, was born February 1872 in Wetipquin. She married Charles Henry McCoy September 29, 1890 in Wetipquin. He was born March 1867 in Washington DC. He died in Baltimore, Maryland. The children of this marriage were Lillian McCoy, Elaine McCoy, Noah E McCoy, Nettie McCoy, Louise McCoy, James Roy McCoy, Vinson McCoy, Wade McCoy and Scott McCoy. Julia Ellen Moore, daughter of James & Sarah Moore, was born December 1879 in Wetipquin. She married John Wesley Barclay December 29, 1896 in Wetipquin. His parents were Stephen Barclay and Matilda Nutter Barclay of Nanticoke, Maryland. One child was born to the marriage – Noah B Barclay. John Wesley Barclay passed away July 7, 1927. Julia Ellen Moore passed March 1974 in Wetipquin.
Sarah Annie Mae Moore, daughter of James & Sarah Moore, was born May 21, 1877 in Wetipquin. She married William S Nutter September 30, 1896. The children of this family were Isabella Nutter, Vernetta Nutter, Irene Nutter and Julia Nutter. Annie Mae Moore passed June 24, 1911. Her daughters were reared by her sister Julia Barclay and family after her death. Hettie L Moore, daughter of James & Sarah Moore, was November 28, 1883 in Wetipquin. She passed away January 25, 1896 and was buried in Friendship Methodist Church cemetery in Wetipquin.
George Albert Moore, son of James & Sarah Moore, was born August 16, 1875 in Wetipquin. He married Alena Dana Dashiell December 30, 1896 in Tyaskin, Maryland. She was born August 1879 in Wetipquin. Her parents were William Dashiell and Emily Gale Dashiell. The children of this marriage were Pauline Gracie Moore, Horace Moses Moore, Grant Moore, Sarah E Moore, Mable Ford Moore, George Moore and Lillian Moore. George Albert Moore passed away February 23, 1951 in Salisbury, Maryland and was buried in Odd Fellows cemetery in Wetipquin. His wife Dana Moore passed away September 1959 and was buried in Odd Fellows cemetery in Wetipquin.
Pauline Gracie Moore, daughter of George & Dana Moore, was born May 1890 in Wetipquin. She married Roger Sidney Hull December 30, 1916 in Wetipquin. He was born January 1891 in Wetipquin. His parents were John & Irene Hull of Wetipquin. The children of this marriage were Ella Hull, Albert Hull, Lois Edith Hull, Roger William, James Roger Hull who lives in Washington DC and Mary Rosa Lee Hull who resides in Wetipquin. Pauline Gracie Moore Hull passed away April 24, 1988 and her husband Roger Hull passed away June 1971, both of them are buried in the Hull family cemetery in Wetipquin. Horace Moses Moore son of George & Dana Moore, was born May 1900 in Wetipquin. He married Devolia Gale January 9, 1922 in Wetipquin. She was born circa 1902 in Wetipquin. Noah Moore was remarried to Margaret Mills August 6, 1860 in Somerset County, Maryland. His wife was born January 30, 1835 in Somerset County. Her parents were Josiah Mills and Mary Mills. The children of this marriage were John E Moore, Matilda Moore, Noah A Moore, Solomon G Moore, Isaac Hayes Moore, Martha A Moore and Sarah Frances Moore. Noah Moore became a large landowner in Wetipquin from his previous marriage to Catherine Wright Moore who had inherited property from her father Stephen Wright. His first wife, Catherine Moore had passed away. Noah and his wife Margaret Moore sold property to the former Friendship Episcopal Methodist Church for twelve dollars and fifty cents in 1868. This was the first deed written for the Church that named all of the first trustees. The church that called the “Meeting House was already built on the property .He had also purchased property from the Messick family in Wetipquin that had a schoolhouse on it, which adjoined the lot for the church building. His son, James Moore and grandson Noah Moore sold the lot to Good Samaritan Lodge, which was named in honor of their cousin Samuel James Chase.

Isaac Hayes Moore was born January 1877 in Wetipquin. He never married. Isaac Moore was a businessman; he owned and operated a grocery store in the community. He worked and took care of his mother in her senior years. Isaac Moore and his mother bought and sold property in Wetipquin.
